Valley View, OH (February 4, 2010) – For one of B’laster Racing’s youngest drivers, Lee Newmeyer, 2009 was a terrific year on his IHRA schedule. Competing in a total of 34 events at tracks in Ohio and Tennessee, Lee won several races in his age bracket, including wins at Dragway 42 in West Salem, OH and Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, OH.
At Dragway 42, Lee raced in 11 of 12 points races. Of the 11 races, Lee was in the final round in 6 races. Of those 6, Lee won 4 races. Lee finished the season as the point’s champion, repeating his championship from 2008.
Lee, who is 15 years old, races in the Junior Dragsters division of 13-17 year olds. Roughly 20-30 competitors raced in his age bracket. Success has been fruitful for Lee. Since 2003, he has won a total of 5 track championships: 4 at Dragway 42 and 1 at Summit.
"Going into the 2009 season, my goals were to win back-to-back championships at Dragway 42 and to move up one spot and win the championship at Summit that I had let slip away during the last points race in 2008," said Newmeyer. "I just couldn’t get the job done at Summit, but it was great to be able to win at Dragway 42, 2 years in a row. I’ve been told to not show up at the track if you don’t think you can win, so I come to the races every week knowing that I can win every time out. I guess that is why my expectations are so high,” he added.
2010 will be Lee’s last year racing in a Junior Dragster. “This year I’m really focusing on winning the Summit points championship that has eluded me the last 2 years. My other goal for 2010 is to qualify to go to Bristol, Tennessee again and race at the NHRA Eastern Conference Finals and ultimately to win that event. This is one race I have never been able to win, but it has been on my goal list since I was 8," Newmeyer said.
The B’laster Corporation, located in Valley View, Ohio, is Lee’s sponsor. "I would especially like to thank B'laster for all the support they have given me this past year, and in advance, their support for this coming year. B’laster products are great, but the people involved with Racing that I have been supported by are the best," said Newmeyer. His other race sponsors include Radius Advertising, Kruger Photos, Finishline Race Fuels, Blossom Racing Engines, and "Uncle Bill."
Lee has been interested in racing all his life. His father raced since the age of 16, and growing up Lee had spent his weekends at the race track. He first raced in 2002 at the age of 8. Other highlights of his young career include Dragway 42 track champion in 2003, 2004, 2008; 2003 Dragway 42 Rookie of the Year; 2004 Dragway 42 Sportsman of the Year; 2008 IHRA Iron Man Classic Winner; 2008 Ohio State Championship Class Winner; 2008 IHRA Division 3 Race of Champions Winner.
In his spare time, Lee enjoys playing drums and driving nitro powered radio control trucks. His hobbies include model car building and baseball card collecting. He attends Shelby High School where he is a 9th grader and his favorite subject is Math.
